Nano-Premi - Keyes To Sonshine

Thank God for technology! Communicating with my SONshine his first few days in the world was hard. Although, Joeseph did an amazing job with FaceTiming and constantly taking pictures and not one moment went by that I didn’t feel included. Joining them a few days later, my family was reunited. Walking into the NICU even with all of the preparation was still difficult. The anticipation of seeing my SONshine, then hearing monitors going off and actually seeing him in the incubator with a CPAP machine on his sweet face is an emotion I don’t think ill ever fully be able to put into words.

Now the words I had been waiting to hear for days, would you like to change your sons diaper? Overjoyed and nervous at the same time they begin to prep me. You’d think what preparation is really needed for changing a diaper? But having to navigate through holes on the side of the incubator so the temperature inside doesn’t drop. They hand me this nano premi diaper, this itty bitty diaper we had to fold because it was still too big.

That was the first day of many future celebrations. Being a NICU parent your celebrations are different. You celebrate the growth of an oz, going up in diaper size, removal of tubes, moving into an open crib or even a different floor level which means you are closer to taking your peanut home.

In Asher’s 103 days before graduating and coming home we found a lot to be grateful for. In those celebrations and many others that have taken place since then shows us God’s glory and tells a story of triumph. Small in size, but fighter inside who has been hitting milestones from that day forward.
