Hello 2021 - Keyes To Sonshine

“I am no longer accepting the things I can not change. I am changing the things I can not accept”
-Dr Angela Davis

As I go into a new year I’m learning to take every moment as a chance to grow. Although, a calendar year shouldn’t be any different, life is always evolving and it wont’t wait until January 1st to do so.

There’s a question that I’ve often asked my friends, “If you were stuck on an island, who would you want to be stuck with?” This year, I found myself on that island. While the closeness mended relationships that I honestly had lost hope for it also came with distance from others that I never would’ve imagined. Some caused by the caution of the virus others just the change of life in itself.

The importance of home changed for me. Not only my physical address but in my mind, body and spirit. I’ve never really set boundaries on who or what entered my home, but this year also brought up this intentionality for me. Some I’ll allow to drive by, while others can wave from the mailbox, few can knock on the door and even fewer can enter my home.

This year taught me how to cherish the moments, from a smile to a warm hug to the full sound of laughter. Some have shared that this year is dedicated to finding a new normal. In my new normal I’m learning to embrace the beauty that is and not live anxious of what could be nor depressed over what was.
